ESE Recognition Awards

Innovation Award

This award is intended to recognize individuals or teams who contribute to improvement within their unit, the division or the university.  This award has been created to recognize staff who bring fresh ideas to their work, inspire a spirit of innovation, and take a bold approach to accomplishing their work. 

Eligibility

All ESE staff are eligible.

            Regular, full time and part time staff in the division of ESE

            Graduate students in the division of ESE

            Groups of regular, full time and part time staff and faculty are eligible.

Criteria

Recipients are recognized for innovating new ideas that enhance the ESE mission or contribute to improvement within a unit, the division or the university.

The selection committee considers, but is not limited to the following criteria:

  • Makes a significant contribution or a series of contributions to advance one or more of the strategic initiatives of the division or provided a solution that greatly improves the service provided to our students and their families
  • Independently and cooperatively, individuals demonstrate: resourcefulness; encourage new ideas and creativity; exhibit leadership qualities within the context of position responsibilities; skills that exceed expectations.
  • Demonstrates innovation, creativity, and informed risk-taking
  • Creates environments in which employees have the freedom, tools, or resources to challenge the status quo, push boundaries and achieve growth; uses mistakes as opportunities for learning.
  • Finds innovative solutions; sees new possibilities; takes new ideas from concept to reality.

Examples include delivering exceptional customer service, cost savings, time savings, creative ideas, combining talents of traditionally separate units, and actively demonstrating by example a willingness to encourage teamwork in the workplace.

Team Collaboration Award

This award promotes the spirit of teamwork within and between units. Recipients of this award have demonstrated outstanding performances and results due to group achievement.

Eligibility

All ESE staff are eligible.

            Groups of:

            Regular, full time and part time staff in the division of ESE

            Graduate students in the division of ESE

            Or any combination of staff and students

Criteria

Recipients are recognized for working together to improve or support the enhancement of the mission of ESE. Recipients may be a unit within one department, several units within a division or two or more departments that have worked together to achieve a goal. The Syracuse community is constantly growing, challenging us to continue to improve means to effectively work across technologies, cultures and boundaries. The collaboration can be within or across teams, departments, units or divisions.

The selection committee considers, but is not limited to the following criteria:

  • Contributions toward team excellence – demonstrating collaboration and cooperation as a team leading to performance that is consistently outstanding and frequently outside the normal scope of prescribed expectations.
  • Independently and cooperatively, team members demonstrate: resourcefulness; encourage new ideas and creativity; exhibit leadership qualities within the context of position responsibilities; skills that exceed expectations.

Examples include delivering exceptional customer service, cost savings, time savings, creative ideas, combining talents of traditionally separate units, new partnerships of areas that don’t traditionally work together and actively demonstrating by example a willingness to encourage teamwork across division units.

Perhaps they responded to an urgent need on campus and quickly formed an ad-hoc team to deliver needed results. 

Or maybe they were members of a large committee that delivered a University-wide event or activity? 

Maybe their everyday work is in teams and they delivered a particularly public or heroic effort this past year?

C.U.S.E. Award

The C.U.S.E. Award recognizes an individual or a group who have demonstrated exceptional effort and performance in volunteerism and/or service to the division that extends beyond their normal job expectations. They are motivated simply by the accomplishment of the task. This award is intended to recognize individuals or teams who foster student engagement and success within their unit, the division or the university.

Eligibility

All ESE staff are eligible.

            Regular, full time and part time staff in the division of ESE

            Graduate students in the division of ESE

            Groups of regular, full time and part time staff and faculty are eligible.

Individual(s) or groups who have not received this award in the previous 4 award ceremonies.

Criteria

Recipients are recognized for significant contributions beyond the expectations of one’s position to create an environment that enhances the ESE mission. Nominators should describe the extent and impact of nominees’ volunteerism and/or service. It is important to include how a nominee’s efforts promote the division’s mission and values. Recipients are recognized for improving the student experience that enhances the ESE mission. This individual(s) seek to create opportunities for students to discover and engage their strengths, talents, and passions.

In the course of their normal job responsibility, the recipient(s) do/does something exceptional. They are consistent in the way that they go above and beyond to deliver services. They have exceptional performance within the scope of job expectations and go above and beyond outside the scope of job duties, specifically on campus.

The selection committee considers, but is not limited to, the following criteria:

  • Diversity and complexity of responsibilities
  • Excellence in performing job responsibilities
  • Dedication and commitment in going above and beyond the call of duty
  • Overall contributions to department, division or university
  • Direct or indirect impact on development of students and student groups in creating an environment which enhances student development
  • Volunteer at university events
  • Serving on committees within the division
  • Any time doing something for someone else outside your normal job description
  • Giving of oneself at a high level
  • Leading role in a service; quality of service – the leadership; impact that the person has on what they are doing
  • Serves as an advocate and role model for students
  • Shows a commitment for student retention, success, and well-being
  • Creates an unsurpassed student experience
  • Fosters student engagement

Leadership Award

The award is presented to employees who consistently demonstrate a high level of commitment and dedication to their employees and the Cornell workplace. Strong nominees create an environment that develops, empowers, engages, challenges and motivates their staff and colleagues with a result of greater productivity, effectiveness, and a sense of belonging.
